“There is one quality that trumps all, evident in virtually every great entrepreneur, manager, and leader. That quality is self-awareness. Without self-awareness, you cannot understand your strengths and weakness, your “super powers” versus your “kryptonite.””~Harvard Business Review
Without a doubt your self awareness has increased since you started your Daily Practice. You’ve become better at identifying your feelings and where in your body you feel them. It’s a great skill, and one to practice as much as you can.
The moment you notice yourself feeling a certain way, name the feeling and where you feel it in your body. Ask yourself this question: Isn’t that interesting?
Then get very still and listen.
Being interested in something means you’re curious about it which means you want to know more. This question also works as a statement~That’s interesting.~ And creates room for your subconscious thoughts to answer and be heard. You then have the choice to believe those thoughts and keep them as truth because they resonate with you, or reject them because they no longer sound or feel true. It leaves you open for discovery, and it’s important to discover new things about yourself, especially when it raises your self awareness and helps you grow.
Write stream of consciousness style~whatever comes to mind without editing. When your monkey mind starts chattering and feelings arise, ask isn’t that interesting? Write about what comes up for you as you start to practice this.
Do you ever feel like you’re living in a world that seems to have lost its mind?
While humanity as a whole has never been safer or more prosperous, it feels like it’s literally falling apart! Tune into ANY type of media and you’re bombarded with the message that we’re on the brink of the end of civilization.
Mainstream media’s purpose is to seed and propagate fear so you become immobilized by it. Fear is the lowest vibrational frequency. Your body releases the stress hormone cortisol which transmits signals from your nervous system and matches them with feelings of stress and anxiety.
Become aware of how much media, especially social media, you’re consuming. Understand that it’s designed to be addictive, and being being constantly plugged into technology is wreaking havoc with your central nervous system.
The sympathetic (fight or flight response) and parasympathetic system (rest & digest response) can’t both work at the same time, either one or the other is working. Think of your body as a car. The sympathetic system is the gas pedal, it gets you all ‘revved up’. The parasympathetic system is the brake to slow it down, bringing you back into balance as you practice ways to move up the vibrational scale into more love based feelings and emotions.
Start to make a conscious effort to disconnect from technology. Create opportunities to connect with yourself and things that make you feel happy. The more you tune into your feelings, the more you get what you really want~peace, clarity, connection and time to spend doing what you love with the people you love.
Everything, including yourself, your thoughts and anything else you may or may not want to experience, is pure energy vibrating at different frequencies. And the better you feel, the better your life becomes.
It’s important to accept, even if you don’t fully understand, that feelings and emotions have their own vibrational frequencies and they attract, or match, like frequencies. Love vibrates at the lightest, highest and fastest frequency; fear at the lowest, slowest and heaviest. And there are many in between them.
Think about this~when you’re feeling happy, peaceful and playful, the vibrations of those feelings attract more of the same. The sun shines brighter, your work feels fulfilling, and you feel more deeply connected to the ones you love. When you’re feeling pissed, frustrated or annoyed guess what happens? You attract more things to feel pissed, annoyed and frustrated by.
This is a universal law called The Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction is neutral. It doesn’t judge, punish or reward. It simply brings like energy together. It’s the Universe serving as the perfect matchmaker. You broadcast your wants and desires via your habitual thoughts, beliefs and actions, and the uni brings you a vibratory match, every time.
Take a minute to open the Feeling Vibration Chart based on David Hawkin’s Scale of consciousness and borrowed from Instructions for Happiness and Success. It’s a great visual to help you see where you’re vibrating now, what higher vibrations are available and some feelings/emotions you’ll move through on your way up the scale. You can look at this broadly, as a baseline of how you feel most of the time. And you can break it down and see it situationally.
Real life example: Baseline/broad~in 2015 I was vibrating at the lowest point on the scale, completely in fear and addicted to being a victim. I’d had spent enough time on my personal growth journey to know I was responsible for my feelings and had the ability to change them if I wanted to. I was sick and tired of feeling stuck, sick and tired. So, I started a Daily Practice. It’s now 2020 and my vibrational baseline is at the highest point on the scale. Sure, it dips now and again, but not as low and DEF not as long. Situationally~sometimes I get sucked into FakeBook and feel jealous when I compare myself to others who’re farther along than me. Or I get overwhelmed and frustrated with the business part of growing my business.
The relief comes with knowing you can change your vibration by doing things, being with people, and spending time in places that hold a higher vibration. If you’re willing to let go of what’s not working, you’ll allow these higher vibrations to help you make the shift.
Write Daily Pages/Journal (10 minutes)
Set Timer if you want to
Revisit your mirror work from the 2 days ago. Where do you rank yourself on the feelings vibration chart? Where would you like to be? What are some things you can let go of to get there? What are some things you can do/add to raise your vibration to a higher level? Recall some experiences where you can now see how your vibration (high or low) attracted more of the same.
Flip back in your journal to where you wrote ALL the things you love/like about yourself. POSITIVE I AM affirmations/mantras such as: I am grateful. I am beautiful. I am worthy. I am a badass….. **These don’t have to be true, they may be things you wish to become true.**
Go to your mirror. Take 5 deep, cleansing breaths and read out loud what you wrote in that journal entry.
Look yourself in the eyes and repeat the list
Place your hands on your heart and say “I love you” 10 times
Note any feelings that come up and where you feel them in your body
It’s ok if you feel awkward or uncomfortable, it usually is when you’re practicing it for the first time. Mirror work is so important when you’re rewiring your brain, it literally reflects back to you the feelings you have about yourself. Immediately you become aware of the words you say, where you feel resistance vs. where you’re open and flowing,
You’re learning to take care of yourself on a deeper level than you’ve done before. And at some point on your personal growth journey you’re gonna have to surrender and just do some mirror work~as you continue, you become less self-critical and the mirror becomes your friend instead of the enemy.
The exercise above counts!!!!
Set Timer if you want to and take 5 cleansing breaths
How was your mirror experience? Where in your body did you feel feelings when doing mirror work? What connections can you make between feeling those feelings and what your current reality looks like?
There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. ~John Lennon
Here’s the difference between emotions and feelings~down ‘n dirty:
Emotions are literally ENERGY in MOTION. They produce biochemical reactions in your body and change your physical state. They’re instinctual, and helped our species survive by producing quick reactions to threat (fight/flight) or reward (rest/digest). Emotions proceed and trigger feelings. They can be objectively measured by blood flow, brain activity, facial micro expressions and body language.
Feelings are mental associations and reactions to emotions. They’re a byproduct of your brain perceiving and assigning meaning to that emotion. They’re a mental portrayal of what’s going on in your body when you experience an emotion. They’re influenced by personal experiences, beliefs and memories. Feelings can’t be precisely measured because they’re subjective and unique to you.
As with anything, you can go way down a rabbit hole here. So let’s keep it simple and understand the 2 bottom line emotions and some of the feelings associated with them:
FEAR and LOVE
Fear-based feelings have a low, slow vibrating energy, they are dense.
Creates limitations, a tightness, an inward pulling feeling (you shrink).
False Evidence Appearing Real
Face Everything And Recover
Fuck Everything And Run~and the more you run, the deeper you fall.
Feelings triggered by the emotion of fear:
Fear (it’s a feeling and an emotion), anger, guilt, shame, doubt, unhappiness, insecurity, lack of faith, lack of self love, jealousy, judgement, competitive comparison, hopelessness, self sabotage/destruction, type A control, frustration, resentment, negativity…
Love-based feelings have a high, fast vibration, they are light.
Creates bodily sensations of openness (you expand).
The acronyms for love are pretty lame, so let’s stick with LOVE ALWAYS WINS.
Feelings triggered by the emotion of love:
love (it’s a feeling and an emotion), joy, faith, trust, inner strength, confidence, belief, happiness, caring, sharing, forgiveness, openness, passion, freedom, harmony, honesty, beauty, compassion, self-love, self-appreciation, respect, acceptance, peace, balance between giving and receiving, understanding, positivity…
